Reading Police Station
About
Location: Reading, MA
Size: 25,000 sq. ft.
Status: Completed in 2000
Located across the Common from the Town Offices, this 25,000 sq. ft. police station and Emergency Response Center acts both as a major element in the downtown revitalization of Reading’s plan, and as a transitional building to the lower scaled residential area behind it. Because it needed to be recognized as an important civic structure, our team picked a matching brick to the Town Hall and designed the new structure with pitched roofs, dormers, and white-framed double hung windows. To avoid compromising security, the public lobby has immediate access to most of the services the public needs. Access to the inner workings of the department, such as locker rooms, roll call, evidence, and detention are restricted.
